Penitent Magdalene
Oil on canvas
15. March 2002
18 x 24 inches
This Mary Magdalene is a companion piece to a Virgin Mary.
The impetus for this painting came from a photograph by David Huang
of someone interacting with Raj Kahlon's painting entitled "Identity
Theories: Indian Woman"
at APAture 2001.

The idea wasn't to reproduce the photograph, the woman in the
painting isn't an accurate likeness of the unwitting model. It
was all about capturing the intensity of her gaze, albeit in a
completely different context.
